Description
A perennial plant 100 to 150 cm tall with a knotty oblique rhizome. The stems are ascending, shortly branched above, ribbed and curly-haired. The leaves are ovate-oblong, sinuately pinnately divided, bright green above, curly-haired along the veins beneath, with yellow spines of 5 to 7 mm. The uppermost leaves surround the involucre like a veil. The flower heads are solitary or clustered in twos and threes, the florets whitish. It flowers from July to September and grows in the subalpine belt among tall herbs and on mountain pastures.After the „Flora of the USSR“ (reproduced at Plantarium)
