Description
Sarcomyxa serotina is a species of fungus in the family Sarcomyxaceae. Its recommended English name in the UK is olive oysterling; in North America it is known as the late fall oyster or late oyster mushroom. The kidney- to fan-shaped cap is yellow-brown with an olive-green tinge and slimy when young; the short lateral stipe is ochre-yellow with small brown scales, and the crowded gills are pale yellow to orange. It grows from early autumn to early winter on the wood of broad-leaved trees, very rarely on conifers, and is edible after boiling or soaking.
