False puffball

Description

Reticularia lycoperdon, the false puffball, is not a true fungus but a slime mould (myxomycete). It is often found on trees in woodland, usually in its mature state. The young stage — a white mass resembling yoghurt or sour cream — lasts only a few hours; later the contents turn brown and powdery. Translated from a Russian-language source.
