Description
A perennial plant 20 to 60 cm tall; the base of the stems is wrapped in the dark brown petioles of old leaves. The stems are ascending, furrowed and greyish cobwebby. The leaves are deeply pinnately divided, almost white-felted beneath, with stout spines of 4 to 5 mm. The flower heads are solitary, 3.5 to 5.5 cm long, the florets purple. It flowers from July to September and grows on gravelly and stony ground in the subalpine and lower alpine belts.After the „Flora of the USSR“ (reproduced at Plantarium)
