Description

The honey fungus (Armillariella mellea) is mostly parasitic, attacking some 200 species of trees and shrubs and, more rarely, herbaceous plants such as potato; it causes white rot of wood. It grows in large clusters on the trunks of living trees and on their stumps — single fruit bodies are very rare — and spreads to unaffected trees by means of rhizomorphs.
